sweeter still: One Year Old

Our little boy turned one this past month. We are so grateful to have him in our lives. He already has his own personality - friendly, calm, humorous, and even a little mischievous. He loves to play catch, throw things, dance, play musical instruments, play outside, play chase, play with water, read, and do things by himself (like hold his own spoon, stand on the step-stool, brush hair, put on his shoes). He enjoys being with other kids and trying to keep up with his big sister. When he wants to do something that we can't do at that moment, he will lean his whole body or sit down or burst into tears. He is pretty good when we leave him with other people. And he loves dogs and cats and can be fairly gentle. He's a great listener and observer and understands what we say. He is just a delight!

Skills: walking, picking up food, feeding self, drinking from a cup, playing catch, saying mama, dada, and that.
Sleep: transitioning to one nap a day, still waking up at night 60% of the time
Foods: loves to feed himself, but doesn't eat much yet; loves cheerios, watermelon, apples, shredded pork, salmon, and raisins

We celebrated with a party at my gramma's house. We rode the ferry over and spent the weekend with her, which was great. My sister and nephew came to help out on Saturday and I got to squeeze in a run before church on Sunday. Of course, we had fresh strawberries and ice cream. After Emma's request for ice cream at breakfast, Gramma said, "Sure. Life is short. Eat ice cream first."

I made a rainbow cake and put Jack's baby book and first year of life in pictures book out for people to view. Ryan made the smash cake. It looked better before the icing started to run.
